The Library of the NIA is aiming at forming a collection that covers different aspects of Hellenic studies and Dutch history with special emphasis on reference books and journals relating to Greek archaeology, Ancient Greek, Ancient History, Byzantine and Modern Greek history, Modern Greek Philology, Dutch History and History of Art. In addition, the Library collects materials relating to the Archaeology and Ancient History of Athens, the History and Archaeology of Greek Religion, Geo-archaeology, Landscape Archaeology, the Aegean Sea Region in the Ottoman Empire and Dutch History and History of Art in the English language, so as to provide a research base for Dutch academics and for the wider international community of scholars in Athens. Acquisition is partly defined by users and guests of the NIA and partly by research and education that is in progress at the NIA.

The Library of the NIA holds about 5,500 monographs and journals. The greater part of this collection was acquired from the Library of the late Prof. H.W.A.M. Sancisi-Weerdenburg (University of Utrecht), Professor W. den Boer (University of Leiden), Professor Dr. J.A.K.E. de Waele (University of Nijmegen) and from donations of the faculties of Archaeology and Art of the University of Utrecht. The Library also receives publications from similar research libraries in Greece and abroad.
The Library is a member of the network of Humanities Libraries in Greece facilitated by the "THE ARGO", National Documentation Centre (EKT). The on-line catalogue is accessible through: Catalogue
The catalogues of the NIA and of the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome have been linked and are searchable simultaneously: Catalogues NIA & KNIR
Guests of the NIA have 24-hour access to the Library. Scholars and academics from other Institutions may use the Library between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. The Library is a reference library only; no books may be removed from the building. Photocopying facilities are provided for readers to make their own copies.
